Gujarat govt suspends Jamnagar hospital, doctor from PMJAY-Ma scheme due to malpractice

Jamnagar: In a crackdown against hospitals committing irregularities under government schemes, the Health Department has suspended the JCC Heart Institute of Jamnagar from the PMJAY-Ma scheme due to non-compliance with guidelines and committing irregularities. The hospital has also been fined over Rs. 6 lakh for irregularities in a total of 105 cardiac procedures.

In this regard, Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said that the state government is constantly striving to make health services more efficient, transparent, and in the public interest. He added that the PMJAY-Ma scheme is a blessing for poor and needy citizens, and any form of irregularity or inhuman negligence will not be tolerated.

Pansheriya further stated that Dr. Parshav Vohra (G‑28538) of JCC Heart Institute, Jamnagar, has been suspended with immediate effect due to malpractices in cardiology and cardiovascular thoracic surgery. The hospital tampered with laboratory reports in two PMJAY cases and ECG reports in one case to show that the beneficiaries required cardiac procedures.

Additionally, a further investigation of 262 cases performed by the hospital at the state level revealed discrepancies in 53 cases, where cardiac procedures were carried out even though they were not required.

The Health Minister also added that two other private hospitals in the state were fined and issued notices for failing to follow scheme guidelines during a surprise inspection. Among them, Sadbhavna Hospital in Palanpur was fined Rs. 50,000 for performing surgeries by doctors other than the empanelled doctors, and Samvanvay Hospital in Junagadh was fined for booking procedures under packages exceeding the prescribed limits.
