Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has completed the comprehensive development of Sakri Lake in Sarkhej village, located in the South West Zone (Sarkhej Ward), at a total cost of ₹17.5 crore. The project, executed in two phases, aims to enhance the environmental, social, and recreational value of the area, the civic body said.

Out of the total 78,858.49 sq. m. area, the lake itself has been developed over 34,676.59 sq. m. The initiative includes extensive infrastructural and beautification works to improve public amenities and create a vibrant community space.

As part of the project, the lake has been excavated and strengthened with stone masonry and a toe wall, while a compound wall and three entry gates have been constructed around it. To promote recreation and leisure, AMC has developed a walkway, lake ghat, and two gazebos, providing citizens with spaces to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Additional facilities include a drinking water area, a main entry plaza, and separate toilets for men and women. A children’s playground equipped with sports facilities has also been developed.

Given the proximity of the AMTS bus station near Sarkhej village, an RCC platform has been constructed in the adjoining area for commuters. Two decorative water fountains have been installed in the lake, and a landscaped garden spread over 5,500 sq. m. adds to its scenic appeal.

The redevelopment of Sakri Lake is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for local residents, benefiting a population of nearly 35,000 people in Sarkhej and nearby areas. DeshGujarat
