November 15, 2025
Surat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today arrived at Surat International Airport for a day-long visit to his home state of Gujarat. From the airport, he left via helicopter to visit the under-construction Bullet Train Station in the Antroli area. At the site, the Prime Minister reviewed the progress of the station and the entire Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) project.
The Bullet Train will run along a 508-kilometre route, covering 352 km in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and 156 km in Maharashtra. The corridor will connect major cities, including Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai, marking a transformative step in India’s transportation infrastructure.
The project, being carried out by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL), has over 85% (465 km) of its route on viaducts, of which 326 km of viaduct work has been completed. Furthermore, 17 out of 25 river bridges have already been constructed.
The Surat–Bilimora section, covering around 47 km, is in an advanced stage of completion, with civil works and track-bed laying fully completed.
PM Modi inspected the Surat Bullet Train station, whose design draws inspiration from the city’s world-renowned diamond industry, reflecting both elegance and functionality. The structural work of the building is already completed, while finishing activities such as interiors, roofing, and station facilities are currently in progress. Track works, including construction of the RC track bed and installation of temporary tracks at the station, have also been completed.
According to NHSRCL, the total height of the station is 26.3 meters, with a total built-up area of 58,352 sq. m. The station building comprises three levels:
-
Ground Level: Facilities such as parking, pick & drop bays (for cars, buses, and autos), security checks, lifts, and escalators for commuters.
-
Concourse Level: Waiting lounges, restrooms, kiosks, and ticketing counters.
-
Platform Level: Boarding platforms for passengers.
Upon completion, the Bullet Train will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to nearly two hours, revolutionizing inter-city travel by making it faster, easier, and more comfortable. DeshGujarat
