Ahmedabad: A speeding Maruti Suzuki Brezza rammed into two homeguards on duty near Urban Chowk on Rajpath–Rangoli Road late Friday night, leaving one of them seriously injured. After hitting the homeguards, the driver went ahead and struck three more individuals nearby.
According to the FIR filed by homeguard Manjurhusen, 27, posted at Sarkhej Police Station, he and fellow homeguard Tanvir M. Shaikh were heading towards their duty point at Rajpath T-point around 12:15 am on Friday on his bike when a speeding Brezza (registration number GJ-01-WR-7730) approached from behind and rammed into them near Fresco 42 Café on Rajpath–Rangoli Road.
The impact of the collision threw both homeguards onto the road and dragged them several feet, causing severe injuries, including fractures and head wounds. Tanvir sustained critical injuries and was found unconscious at the scene.
Hearing the commotion, police personnel posted at Rajpath T-point — including Head Constable Sikandar Jashubha and other officers — rushed to the spot. The accused driver fled immediately after the crash, but officers managed to note the vehicle’s registration number.
The FIR states that Manjurhusen suffered a fracture in his right shoulder along with head and leg injuries, while Tanvir sustained serious head and body injuries and remains in critical condition.
As the Brezza driver sped away from the first crash, he also hit three labourers on Sindhu Bhavan Road near Urban Chowk, injuring them as well. All victims were later taken to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment. No fatalities have been reported.
Police have detained Pranav Jani, an MBA student, who is believed to have been driving the car at the time of the incident. His medical test will determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol, as claimed by eyewitnesses. CCTV footage from the area has been seized for further investigation.
A case has been registered against the Brezza driver under Sections 110, 280, 125(a), 125(b) of the BNS, and 134(b), 177, and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
