Ravindra Jadeja returns to Rajasthan Royals after 17 years in major IPL trade; calls it ‘home’

Jaipur: One of the star all-rounders of the Indian cricket team and Gujarat’s very own Ravindra Jadeja will not be seen playing alongside Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) next season. The reason is a major trade between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. The Royals confirmed today that Sanju Samson will move to CSK in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
For Jadeja, this move marks a homecoming. He was one of the young talents who played for Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural IPL season, in which the team clinched the title. “Jadeja played a pivotal role in the team’s historic triumph under Shane Warne’s leadership,” the franchise said in a statement.
Seventeen years later, he returns as one of world cricket’s most complete all-rounders — a symbol of excellence, consistency and leadership, the statement added.
“Rajasthan Royals gave me my first platform and my first taste of victory,” said Ravindra Jadeja. “Coming back feels special — it’s not just a team for me, it’s home. Rajasthan Royals is where I won my first IPL, and I hope to win more with this current group of players.”
Meanwhile, Jadeja has taken a pay cut for his return to his first IPL franchise. After the trade, his league fee has been revised from ₹18 crore to ₹14 crore.
The excitement surrounding his homecoming was also echoed by his wife in an X post titled ‘Khamma Ghani’, Rivaba Jadeja, who is the Minister of State for Primary, Secondary and Adult Education in the Gujarat government. DeshGujarat
