SMC cracks down on adulterated dairy products; samples from six units found unsafe

Surat: The Food Department of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), along with sanitation staff from respective zones, conducted an intensive inspection of food establishments across the city. The drive, carried out between November 3 and November 15, 2025, focused particularly on units manufacturing and selling paneer analog, cheese analog and ghee.
During the inspection, samples collected from various establishments were sent to the Public Health Laboratory of Surat Municipal Corporation for testing. As per laboratory analysis, six samples were declared unsafe under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and its rules and regulations.

In addition to the sample testing, officials seized approximately 33 kg of cheese analog worth around ₹10,080 during the inspection.
The Surat Municipal Corporation has announced that legal action will be initiated against the above establishments and individuals by filing complaints in the Municipal Court, Surat. DeshGujarat
