Tharad traders shut shops in protest against Jignesh Mevani; rally held in support of police

Tharad/Vav: Traders in the Vav-Tharad region staged a massive protest by closing their shops following statements made by Congress leader Jignesh Mevani. The traders expressed anger over Mevani’s remarks and organized the protest to show their support for the local police.

The controversy arose after Mevani allegedly criticized the police regarding the sale of illegal substances in the area. During the Congress “Jan Akrosh Yatra,” locals reportedly approached Mevani with complaints that drugs and liquor were being sold freely in Tharad and Timnagar.

Accompanied by local residents, Mevani submitted a representation to the Superintendent of Police (SP) office and local police station. He publicly reprimanded the police, claiming they were “not working” and that liquor sales were rampant in the region.

In response, traders in Tharad condemned Mevani’s statements and closed their shops in protest. They came out in support of the police, arguing that officers stand by the community and serve the public. The traders emphasized that “unparliamentary words” should not be directed at the police, stressing the importance of respecting law enforcement.

The protest involved a complete cessation of business activities in the area, highlighting the traders’ strong opposition to Mevani’s remarks and their solidarity with the police. DeshGujarat
