ACB Gujarat arrests Retd Class 2 Engineer in disproportionate assets case

Vadodara: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked Nipun Chandravadan Choksi, a retired State Project Engineer with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and a Class-II officer, for possessing disproportionate assets. Choksi, whose last posting was as Deputy Executive Engineer with the Roads and Buildings Department in Vadodara, has been booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the ACB, Choksi was earlier arrested on July 16, 2021, after being caught accepting a bribe of ₹1,21,000 and was subsequently sacked. Following his arrest, a detailed investigation was conducted. During the probe, officers recovered ₹2,27,25,000 from three lockers at Citizen Co-operative Bank branches in Sector 10 and Sector 6 of Gandhinagar, along with ₹4,12,205 in cash from his residence. The total cash and asset seizure amounted to ₹2,31,75,205.

The ACB’s inquiry, covering the period between April 1, 2021, and September 19, 2021, revealed that Choksi allegedly acquired assets worth ₹3,08,90,279, approximately 62.43% more than his lawful income. Investigators said Choksi misused his official position, adopted illegal methods to earn money, and invested the proceeds in movable and immovable properties under his own name.

Based on these findings, a new case has been registered against him under Sections 13(1)(e) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. DeshGujarat
