Ahmedabad: City police have busted an illegal prostitution racket operating under the guise of spas in upscale areas of the city, conducting raids at three centres over the past two days in Bopal–Ambli Road, Ellisbridge and Anandnagar.

Acting on specific intelligence, Anandnagar police raided New Arista Well Spa in Devarum Complex near Deer Circle and caught the manager red-handed, while the spa owner fled. A case has been registered against both.

Two days earlier, Sarkhej police raided The Zero Spa in Oneworld West Complex on Bopal–Ambli Road after sending a decoy customer to confirm the illegal activity. The manager, Saudamiyan Sheikh of Khanpur, was arrested. Police said he had been working there for the past three months.

In another operation, Ellisbridge police raided Lemon Ayurvedic Spa near Shri Krishna Complex, Ambawadi, and detained a customer. The operator and owner are currently absconding.

Police are now investigating how long these centres had been running brothels under the cover of spa services. DeshGujarat
