Ahmedabad RPO busts two for forging documents to obtain new passports
December 03, 2025
Ahmedabad: Two cases of passport tampering have been detected at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Ahmedabad over the past 10 days, highlighting the lengths to which some applicants are going to secure travel abroad.
In both incidents, applicants were caught red-handed manipulating passports and key identity documents, including Aadhaar cards, in an attempt to obtain new passports. The RPO has alerted the police, and investigations are currently underway.
According to RPO officials, in the first case, the applicant applied for a new passport under a changed identity despite already holding a valid one. The individual had altered crucial details—such as name, surname and address—in supporting documents including the Aadhaar card.
In the second case, discrepancies emerged during the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) process, revealing that the applicant possessed two passports issued under different identities. A police complaint has been lodged, and the application has been placed on hold.
RPO officials added that individuals who have travelled abroad illegally or have pending legal cases often attempt to change their identity before reapplying. The forged documents and applications have been handed over to the police. DeshGujarat
