Rape Accused Shot After Trying to Snatch PI’s Revolver in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A dramatic incident unfolded in the Danilimda area when a rape case reconstruction turned violent. The accused, booked for assaulting a disabled young woman, attacked the police in an attempt to escape, forcing the Police Inspector to open fire. The bullet struck the accused in the leg, and he was immediately shifted for medical treatment. A head constable was also injured in the scuffle.

Police had taken Moinuddin Bakarwal, accused in a rape case registered at Danilimda Police Station, to the crime spot for reconstruction. According to officials, he suddenly launched an attack on the police team and tried to flee. He attempted to snatch the service revolver of Police Inspector Imran Ghasura, who was present at the scene. In response, the PI fired a shot in self-defence, injuring the accused in the leg.

During the scuffle, Head Constable Bharatsinh Rathod suffered injuries. Ajit Rajian, DCP, Crime Branch, stated that the accused attacked Rathod with a piece of glass before trying to grab the PI’s revolver. Both Rathod and the accused have been admitted to Civil Hospital for treatment. The official added that the accused has a history of criminal behaviour.

The DCP further said that a fresh case will be lodged against the accused with the Crime Branch for attacking police personnel and attempting to escape custody. DeshGujarat
