Amid the ongoing operational challenges, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) conducted surprise inspections at several high-traffic airports on Tuesday. Madhu Sudan Shankar, Joint Secretary at MoCA, reviewed operations at Mumbai Airport and noted that although the situation showed signs of improvement, delays remained widespread at airports in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, and Lucknow.
Following this nationwide crisis, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has instructed IndiGo to cut 10% of its total flight operations, doubling its earlier 5% reduction mandated by the DGCA. The ministry said the move aims to “stabilise the airline’s operations” while maintaining service across all destinations.
Airports have begun issuing cancellation alerts at least six hours in advance to minimize unnecessary passenger movement. The government also confirmed that IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has assured full refunds for all passengers affected until December 6. However, fresh cancellations continue to mount, and the airline has yet to outline a detailed plan to restore full operational stability. DeshGujarat
