Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train project: Over 4.7 lakh noise barriers installed so far

Ahmedabad: Construction work on the Ahmedabad–Mumbai High Speed Rail (Bullet Train) project has made significant progress, with much of the structural and technical work on the 508-km corridor completed as of December 9, officials said.

According to project authorities, viaduct construction has been completed over 330 km, while pier work has progressed over 408 km of the route. Bridge construction has also advanced steadily, with 17 of the 25 river bridges already completed. Officials termed the recent completion of the first 130-metre span of the 230-metre-long steel bridge over National Highway 64 and the Bharuch–Dahej freight line of Indian Railways a major milestone for the project.

To address noise concerns along the corridor, more than 4.7 lakh noise barriers have been installed across a stretch of 235 km. In addition, construction of the reinforced concrete (RC) track bed has been completed for about 260 track km.

Electrification work is progressing, with nearly 3,700 overhead electric masts installed along approximately 85 route km. Tunnel construction is also underway, including excavation work in seven mountain tunnels. In Mumbai, excavation of 5 km of the 21-km underground tunnel between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Shilphata has been completed so far.

Meanwhile, construction of depots for the maintenance of rolling stock is in progress at Surat and Ahmedabad. Officials said superstructure work at all bullet train stations in Gujarat has reached the final stage. DeshGujarat
