Chopping tree turns costly for Ahmedabad man as AMC slaps ₹1 lakh fine
December 29, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on a resident of Suvita Park Society in Isanpur for cutting a tree without prior permission. The action was taken after the Garden Department conducted a spot inspection and confirmed that the tree had been felled in violation of municipal rules.
AMC has taken a strict stance against illegal tree cutting at a time when initiatives such as Mission Million Tree are underway to increase urban green cover. Officials said that cutting or pruning trees in private or public premises without written permission from the Garden Department is a punishable offence, and legal action, including monetary penalties, may be initiated against violators.
Environmental groups have welcomed the action, stating that strict penalties will deter unauthorised tree cutting. The civic body has also warned that those damaging the city’s greenery will face firm action. DeshGujarat
