Ahmedabad: Tension flared up in Kalana village of Sanand taluka after a clash broke out between two groups reportedly due to an old rivalry, leading to incidents of stone-pelting on Monday night and again on Tuesday morning. Fearing further escalation, villagers reported unrest as tempers rose between members of both communities.
As soon as the situation was reported, senior Ahmedabad Rural police officials, including the Superintendent of Police and DySP, rushed to the spot with a large police convoy. Heavy bandobast was deployed, and a combing operation was launched across the village. According to ground reports, several houses were found deserted as residents left the village amid the tense atmosphere.
Officials said the dispute allegedly began over social media posts and escalated when youths from one group confronted a member of the other group, leading to physical scuffles and later stone-pelting. Police had earlier registered cross-complaints in the matter.
So far, over 40 people have been detained in connection with the incident. Authorities said strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the violence. Security has been tightened in the area to prevent further trouble, and police stated that the situation is currently under control, with investigation underway. DeshGujarat
