Cop held for allegedly supplying charas to drug peddler in Ahmedabad
January 07, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Special Operations Group (SOG) Crime Branch of the city police has arrested a police constable after an investigation revealed his alleged involvement in the supply of nearly 1.9 kg of charas seized earlier from a drug peddler in the city.
The case came to light after the SOG recently arrested a 26-year-old man, Ajay alias Badshah Bandhel, a resident of Muthiya village in Naroda, with 1.872 kg of charas valued at approximately ₹4.68 lakh. Bandhel was allegedly on his way to sell the contraband when he was intercepted and arrested.
During custodial interrogation, Bandhel disclosed that the seized consignment had been provided to him by a serving police constable. Acting on this information, the SOG arrested Shailesh Chauhan, who was posted with the E-Division Traffic Police in Ahmedabad.
According to investigators, Bandhel told the police that Chauhan had handed over the charas to him for sale. Chauhan, during questioning, claimed that the contraband was found “unclaimed.” However, further inquiry revealed that the two were already acquainted, as Chauhan had previously served at Naroda Police Station, where Bandhel was based.
The SOG is now probing the circumstances under which the contraband came into the possession of the police constable and whether there are any additional links in the alleged drug trafficking network. Further investigation in the case is underway. DeshGujarat
