January 08, 2026
Japan K. Pathak, Gandhinagar: The upcoming Commonwealth Games in 2030 in Ahmedabad and the city’s further ambition to host the Olympic Games in 2036 will require more hotel rooms in the city. And it is not only about these sports events; even otherwise, the city will require more hotel rooms, considering the other development taking place here.
One of the new hotels to come up in the city will be a Lalit brand hotel. Bharat Hotels Limited has proposed to set up The Lalit Ahmedabad, a five-star hotel, at a cost of over Rs 252 crore. The hotel will come up on roughly 6.35 acres (2.57 ha) of land in the Hansol area of the city, close to Indira Bridge, which connects Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar. The location (R.S. No. 26/2, Final Plot No. 5/2, T.P. Scheme No. 68 Hansol-2, Hansol, Taluka) is close to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Though the location at present looks like a cornered place, it will soon have the Sabarmati Riverfront 2 linked to it, thereby offering a riverside road next to it. The location is also close to the beginning point of Sabarmati Riverfront Phase-3.
The proposed hotel shall have 252 rooms, a 1,200-seat banquet hall, 1,100-seat restaurants and coffee shops, and will have over 110 staffers. The building will have a structure comprising two basements, ground floor, and seven floors. The height of the proposed building shall be 23.22 m, with a built-up area of over 66,000 square metres.
Bharat Hotels Ltd runs 12 hotels across India in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Jaipur, Udaipur, Goa, Khajuraho, Srinagar, Bekal, and Mangar, in addition to one property under its management in London. The upcoming hotel in Ahmedabad will be the group’s first hotel in the city.
