Gondal: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has nabbed a station fire officer of Gondal Municipality red-handed while accepting a bribe. The officer was caught at a hotel near the Bhunawa Toll Plaza on the Rajkot–Junagadh Highway.
The accused, Sanjay Virambhai Vasani, a Class-3 Station Fire Officer with Gondal Municipality, had allegedly demanded ₹50,000 in exchange for clearing fire safety No Objection Certificates (NOCs) required for a petrol pump. Notably, the officer’s wife is a head constable posted at the Gondal Mahila Police Station.
According to the complaint, the approval process for three fire NOC files (FSPA and FSCA) related to a petrol pump project was pending. In return for clearing the files, Vasani allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 from the complainant. Unwilling to pay the illegal amount, the complainant approached the Rajkot ACB and lodged a formal complaint.
Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap at the Jai Bhavani Hotel near the Bhunawa Toll Plaza. As planned, the accused arrived at the location to collect the bribe. Following a pre-arranged conversation with the complainant in the presence of ACB officials, Vasani accepted the amount. Immediately thereafter, the ACB team apprehended him red-handed and initiated further legal proceedings. DeshGujarat
