Mega demolition operation in Jamnagar; 150 illegal houses to be razed
February 06, 2026
Jamnagar: The district administration today launched a mega demolition operation to remove encroachments, hindering railway development works in Jamnagar city. The drive is part of the ongoing double-tracking and electrification project on the Rajkot–Kanalus railway line, during which illegal encroachments on railway land near the Digjam Overbridge are being cleared.
The operation, jointly carried out by the railway administration and local police, began early this morning. As many as 150 illegal encroachments, including huts and mud-brick houses constructed on both sides of the railway track, are being demolished using six JCB machines. Officials said the clearance drive is expected to continue for the next three days.
To prevent any untoward incidents, a heavy police deployment of around 300 personnel, including senior officers, has been made at the site. Authorities said strict security arrangements are in place to ensure the operation proceeds smoothly.
Officials noted that the area under the Digjam Overbridge had long been a challenge for law enforcement, with repeated incidents related to the illegal distillation and sale of country liquor. Despite multiple police raids in the past, such activities continued. The demolition drive is expected not only to facilitate railway infrastructure development but also to help curb long-standing anti-social activities in the area. DeshGujarat
