Kharikat Canal Phase 1 Nears Completion; CM to Hold Roadshow at Feb-End

Ahmedabad: Work on Phase 1 of the Kharikat Canal project is nearing completion, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is likely to hold a roadshow on Canal Road after the work is completed later this month, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani said on Tuesday.
Providing details about the project, Dani said the first phase of the Kharikat Canal spans 12.5 km, of which nearly 10 km of work is approaching completion. Around 205 bridges have been constructed under this phase so far. In addition, beautification work in the surrounding area is planned in the near future.
The second phase of the project falls within Ahmedabad’s South Zone and carries an estimated cost of ₹1,000 crore. Construction work on this stretch, running from Naroda to Vinjol, is also nearing completion.
The Chief Minister is expected to hold a roadshow at Kharikat Phase 1 at the end of February and lay the foundation stone for Phase 2, Dani added.
