Textile University in Gujarat Awaits GITCO Study
February 25, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has stated that no new project report has been prepared in the last two years for the proposed Textile University in the state.
In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Dineshbhai Ataji Thakor (Chanasma), the state government informed the Assembly that as of December 31, 2025, no fresh project report has been finalised for setting up the Textile University.
Regarding budgetary provisions, the government said that a token allocation of ₹0.01 crore has been made in the 2025–26 state budget for the proposed university. However, as the allocation is only token in nature, no expenditure has been incurred so far.
On the timeline for the university to become operational, the government clarified that the matter has been referred to the Gujarat Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organization Limited (GITCO) for a detailed study and evaluation. Further action will be initiated only after the report is received.
The timeline for the establishment and commencement of the Textile University will depend on the outcome of GITCO’s assessment and subsequent administrative approvals. DeshGujarat
