IMD Issues Warning of Hot & Humid Air Conditions in Parts of Gujarat Next Week

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures across Gujarat over the next few days, with hot and humid conditions likely to develop in coastal areas between March 4 and March 6.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued this noon, there will be no large change in maximum and minimum temperatures during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 3–5°C, while minimum temperatures may increase by 2–3°C over the region.

The IMD, in its weather warning, stated that “discomfort due to hot and humid air is very likely to prevail at isolated places over the coastal areas of Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch” from Day 5 to Day 7 of the forecast period, i.e., March 4 to March 6.

Meanwhile, dry weather conditions are very likely to continue across all districts of the Gujarat region, Saurashtra-Kutch, and Diu, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli from March 1 to March 7.

For Ahmedabad and adjoining areas, the sky is expected to remain mainly clear till 8:30 am on March 1. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 33°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 20°C.

Health Advisory

The IMD noted that while temperatures will remain moderate and generally tolerable for the public, there may be moderate health concerns for vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses due to hot and humid conditions.

Residents are advised to:

  • Avoid prolonged heat exposure

  • Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose cotton clothing

  • Cover their heads while outdoors
