Stray Dog Pack Attacks 12-Year-Old in Amod; Locals Warn of Protest
March 02, 2026
Bharuch: The menace of stray and allegedly rabid dogs in Amod town has reached alarming levels, with residents alleging continued inaction by the local municipal administration.
Tension escalated recently after a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in a dog attack in the Vanta area of the town. It is learnt that the child was returning home from a madrasa when a pack of dogs allegedly surrounded and attacked him. Hearing his screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him.
The incident has triggered widespread anger among residents, who claim that the municipality’s earlier sterilisation and dog control drives have failed to address the issue effectively. Locals allege that the measures taken so far have remained largely on paper and have not translated into visible results on the ground.
Residents say they have repeatedly submitted representations to the authorities, but the problem persists, leaving people living in constant fear. Some have questioned whether officials are waiting for a major tragedy before taking concrete action.
Locals have warned that if the issue is not resolved permanently within 24 hours, they will stage protests against the administration.
Previous Incidents Raise Concerns
Residents also pointed out that this is not the first such incident. Earlier, serious dog attacks were reported in the Amod market area and in localities behind the mosque. In some past cases, children were severely injured.
With recurring incidents being reported, citizens are demanding immediate and effective intervention to prevent further attacks and ensure public safety. DeshGujarat
