Ex-Congress MLA’s Son Caught Drunk Driving in Ahmedabad; Videos Go Viral
March 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: The son of former Congress MLA and ex-city party president Himmatsinh Patel was allegedly caught driving under the influence of alcohol near Dudeshwar Circle in the city on Sunday night. The accused, Yuvraj Patel, reportedly argued with police personnel before he and his friend were taken to Madhavpura Police Station. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media. However, as of 6 pm on Monday, no FIR had been registered in the matter.
The incident occurred during late-night checking near Dudeshwar Circle, where locals allegedly stopped the car after suspecting that the driver was drunk. During inspection, liquor bottles were reportedly found inside the vehicle. A Traffic Regulation Brigade (TRB) personnel was called to the spot and the police control room (112) was informed.
Eyewitnesses claimed that instead of immediate legal action, the matter was allegedly resolved on the spot. A constable was also seen sitting inside the car during the inspection, though his identity has not been confirmed. Liquor bottles were reportedly visible near the driver’s seat as well as on the rear seat, as seen in the viral video.
Both the accused were later taken to Madhavpura Police Station, but were allegedly released without a case being registered, leading to allegations of a settlement.
However, after the videos went viral, Madhavpura Police Inspector C.R. Rana told the media that a case would be registered on the basis of the video footage, even though the matter was earlier settled at the spot after the complainant withdrew his objection.
Meanwhile, Sector-1 Joint Commissioner of Police Neeraj Badgujar said that an inquiry would be conducted into the circumstances under which the alleged settlement took place.
Reacting to the incident, Himmatsinh Patel said the car belongs to his son, but he was not aware of the details of what had happened.
It is noteworthy that earlier this month, Vishal Mahendrabhai Gurjar, a former city president of Youth Congress and nephew of Himmatsinh Patel, was also allegedly found driving under the influence of alcohol.
