Surat Metro Project Achieves Landmark as 8.5 km Viaduct Completed, Trials Begin

Surat: The Surat Metro Rail Project has reached a key milestone with the completion of an 8.5 km elevated viaduct between Dream City and Althan Tenement stations. Trial runs of metro trains on this stretch have commenced, according to the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation(GMRC).

Officials stated that approximately 500 hours of trial operations will be conducted as part of system testing. The track-laying work on the route has been completed, along with the installation of the third rail system required for traction power.

Structural work for all seven stations along this corridor has also been completed. Finishing work, including entry and exit points, is currently underway.

Safety and operational readiness will be assessed through inspections by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). Following these evaluations and approvals, the corridor will be considered for public operations.

The Surat Metro project is expected to contribute to urban transport capacity by providing an additional public transit option in the city. DeshGujarat
