Rs 945 Crore 6-Lane High-Speed Corridor Approved Between Surat & Navsari

Surat: The Gujarat government has approved a major infrastructure project aimed at advancing the vision of Surat–Navsari twin cities and easing traffic congestion on the busy Surat–Sachin–Navsari corridor.

The ‘High-Speed Corridor’ project has received administrative approval of Rs 945.92 crore. Under the project, a 14.3-km stretch of road will be upgraded from four lanes to six lanes.

Currently, around 25,000 to 27,000 vehicles use this arterial route daily. The presence of major industrial hubs such as Sachin and Pandesara GIDC, Hojiwala Industrial Estate, and Hazira-based industries including AMNS, Adani, Reliance, and Kribhco, along with Hazira Port, has led to a steady rise in freight traffic, resulting in frequent congestion, especially during peak hours.

The proposed high-speed corridor is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by 20–30 minutes.

Choryasi MLA Sandeep Desai, who has been consistently pursuing the project, said it would enhance connectivity across South Gujarat, linking industrial centres such as Vapi and Valsad, as well as growing urban centres like Navsari and Bilimora, with Surat. It is also expected to improve logistics efficiency and boost exports. The corridor will further provide better access to the upcoming PM MITRA Park in Navsari.

Key Features of the Project

  • Elevated Corridor: A 1.9-km elevated stretch on the SUDA Bypass Road
  • Flyover & Bridge: A new flyover and a major bridge over the Mindhola River at Maroli Junction, along with eight minor bridges
  • Underpasses: Two vehicular underpasses (VUPs) and one light vehicle underpass near Sachin–Pardi Alpha Hotel, Lajpore, and Kapletha
  • Road Upgradation: Expansion of the 14.3-km stretch into a six-lane high-speed corridor

Timeline and Execution

The Roads and Buildings Department has initiated the tender process. Work is expected to begin after the monsoon, with a completion timeline of 24 months.

Land Acquisition

Land acquisition will be undertaken in Lajpore, Sachin, Kapletha, and Popda villages. Authorities said the process will be carried out in consultation with local residents and farmers. The expansion is also expected to open up opportunities for township and commercial development along the corridor. DeshGujarat
