Sabarmati Railway Station Upgrade 80% Complete, Likely to Be Ready by Diwali
April 01, 2026
Ahmedabad: Sabarmati Railway Station in the city is undergoing redevelopment with modern passenger amenities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The project, estimated at ₹334 crore, was initially scheduled for completion by December 2025. However, due to construction being carried out alongside regular train operations, the timeline has been delayed and is now expected to be completed by Diwali later this year.
At present, around 80 per cent of the work has been completed. Once finished, the station’s enhanced capacity is expected to allow the introduction of additional train services.
Work is currently underway to develop a large concourse area across platforms, along with upgrades to platforms 1 and 2. The concourse is being designed to provide improved seating arrangements and facilitate smooth passenger movement within the station. Meanwhile, redevelopment of platforms 4–5 and 6–7, along with the main station building, has already been completed.
A concourse area above platforms 3 to 7 has also been developed, enabling faster and more convenient movement between platforms. These platforms are connected through foot overbridges, including a newly constructed 12-metre-wide foot overbridge, which will also link the station to the multi-modal transport hub.
Enhanced Passenger Facilities
The redeveloped station will feature wide concourse areas across platforms, along with improved accessibility through lifts and escalators. Multiple foot overbridges and direct connectivity to the bullet train multi-modal hub are also part of the project.
Passengers will benefit from amenities such as a food plaza, waiting and retiring rooms, digital display systems, and modern announcement facilities. Separate entry and exit gates, along with designated parking, pick-up, and drop-off zones, have been planned to ensure smoother traffic management.
In addition, the station will be equipped with CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems, and smart infrastructure elements such as green building features and solar power, enhancing both safety and sustainability. DeshGujarat
