Gujarat Local Body Polls for 9,992 Seats; Polling on April 26, Counting on 28th

Gandhinagar: The State Election Commission of Gujarat today announced local polls for 9,992 seats of local bodies.
Nominations will start from 6 April, and the last date for filing nominations is 11 April. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on 13 April. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is 15 April.
Polling will take place on 26 April from 7 am to 6 pm. If required, re-polling will be held on 27 April. Counting will take place on 28 April.
The entire process will be concluded before 30 April.
With this announcement, the model code of conduct is effective from 1st April evening.
Total seats to go for polling: 9,992.
Municipal Corporation (MC) seats: 1,044.
Nagar Palika (NP) seats: 2,624.
District Panchayat (DP) seats: 1,090.
Taluka Panchayat (TP) seats: 5,234.
There are 34 District Panchayats, including newly formed district Vav–Tharad that shall go to polling. 26 of them have new delimitation.
Out of total 17 Municipal Corporations, 15 will witness elections, barring Junagadh and Gandhinagar.
84 Municipalities will go to election. 7 of them are formed new. 14 have new delimitation.
260 Taluka Panchayats will go to elections out of 263, as three municipalities — Kapadvanj, Kathlal, and Gandhinagar—have already completed elections. Barring 109, the other Taluka Panchayats have new delimitation.
In addition to above 13 vacant seats in 11 municipalities will go for by-polls.
Total voters: 4.19 crore.
1.10 crore voters in Municipal Corporations.
33.66 lakh voters in Municipalities.
2.74 crore-plus voters in Taluka Panchayats.
Gujarat has 2.16 crore male voters and 2.02 crore-plus female voters, totaling over 4.18 crore (approx. 4.19 crore) voters.
