3 GujCTOC Accused to Contest Jamnagar Civic Polls from Congress, AAP

Jamnagar: Three individuals booked under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act (GUJCTOC) are set to contest the upcoming Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) elections, including two from the Congress and one from the Aam Aadmi Party.

On Friday, former corporator Altaf Khafi, contesting as a Congress candidate from Ward No. 12, arrived with a police escort to file his nomination. Khafi, who is currently in the custody of Sikka police in connection with a physical assault case and is also an accused under the GUJCTOC Act, submitted his nomination without the party’s official mandate.

Earlier, on April 9, Aslam Khilji, another accused under the GUJCTOC Act, filed his nomination as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Ward No. 12. Both leaders are former corporators of the civic body.

Meanwhile, the Congress has fielded Atul Bhanderi from Ward No. 16, a Patel-majority area. He is also an accused in a GUJCTOC case, the first such case registered in Jamnagar in 2020, and has been released on bail.

With these developments, a total of three candidates facing charges under the GUJCTOC Act, two from the Congress and one from the Aam Aadmi Party have filed nominations to contest the upcoming municipal elections in Jamnagar.
