Gujarat Science City to Upgrade Thrill Ride with New 3D Technology
April 11, 2026
Ahmedabad: Science City is set to enhance its visitor experience by upgrading the 3D technology used in its popular thrill ride. The Gujarat Council of Science City (GCSC) has invited experienced agencies to bid for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of a new 3D passive system, which will replace the existing active system.
What is changing?
The upgrade is aimed at modernising the ride’s visual experience. Key components of the project include:
- A new 3D silver screen (7 ft x 5 ft): A specialised projection surface coated with reflective metallic material (aluminium flakes), designed specifically for passive 3D cinema systems.
- A high-performance DLP (Digital Light Processing) projector (4,000–6,000 lumens): This projector uses a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) chip, consisting of millions of microscopic mirrors, to reflect light and produce images.
- A 3D polarisation modulator along with 200 pairs of circularly polarised 3D glasses for visitors.
- Complete installation, operator training, and a one-year warranty.
What does this upgrade mean for visitors?
Currently, the ride uses an active 3D system, which requires battery-powered glasses that rapidly switch images between the eyes. While this offers good picture quality, the glasses are heavier, costlier, and need maintenance.
The new passive 3D system will use lightweight, battery-free glasses similar to those used in most cinemas. This makes them more comfortable to wear and easier to manage, especially for large numbers of visitors.
In simple terms, the upgrade is expected to make the experience more comfortable, convenient, and visitor-friendly, while still delivering an engaging 3D effect.
Information for bidders
GCSC is seeking agencies that have successfully completed at least one similar 3D projection project in the past. Interested bidders must also demonstrate an average annual turnover of at least ₹7.5 lakh over the past three financial years.
The project is expected to be completed within 16 weeks from the date of the work order. The last date for bid submission is April 13, 2026. DeshGujarat
