Surat: In a shocking incident reported from the Uttaran area of Surat, a neighbour allegedly attempted to kill an entire family by lacing ‘ladoo prasad’ with poison. The incident took place at Shaligram Heights, where a family residing on the 11th floor was targeted. The Uttaran police have identified and nabbed five suspects through CCTV footage and have begun questioning them.

Gordhanbhai Donda lives with his family in Shaligram Heights. On April 10, when he returned home in the afternoon, he noticed a bag hanging on the handle of the main door. The bag contained ‘boondi ladoos’. As it is common for acquaintances or neighbours to distribute prasad during religious occasions, he did not suspect anything unusual. He brought the prasad inside and consumed it. Later, his daughter-in-law, Kiranben, also ate some of the prasad.

Approximately two hours later, Gordhanbhai began experiencing slurred speech and severe dizziness before collapsing unconscious. He was initially taken to Venus Hospital, but due to the unavailability of an ICU bed, he was shifted to Kiran Hospital, where he was admitted for emergency treatment. Later, his daughter-in-law, who had also consumed the laddus, started showing similar symptoms of dizziness.

Upon further checking, other family members found that the ladoos allegedly contained poisonous tablets, indicating that the case was not accidental food poisoning but a deliberate attempt to harm the family. After being admitted to the hospital for two days, both victims have been discharged and returned home.

The Uttaran police have been investigating the case, and samples of the ladoos have been sent for FSL analysis. Additionally, five suspects identified through CCTV footage have been detained for questioning.

Meanwhile, Kiranben Donda, while speaking to the media, stated that their neighbour Ushaben has been nabbed. She alleged that Ushaben harboured a grudge against the family over suspicions that they had helped her daughter elope and had allegedly attempted to poison them in revenge. DeshGujarat
