Gandhinagar, 6 April, 2012
Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi today opened a new office building of Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) in Gandhinagar.
GPCB comes under the ministry of Environment, Government of Gujarat. And the new building opened today is very environment friendly.
All 40 air conditioners, as many as 600 fans and 1,000 CFL tube lights in this building run on solar energy through 2,000 sq meter solar panel set up on the top of the building that generate 80 KW energy. This means the building uses 100 per cent solar energy, generated through sunlight. Moreover the building supplies excess power to Torrent Power grid at a rate of around Rs 10 per unit. The building has two recharge wells that would recharge about 750 cubic meter rain water.
Speaking at inaugural function Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi said, “when this ‘Gujarat Pollution Control Board'(GPCB) was established in year 1974, the situation at time could be possibly so bad that they needed to use the word ‘control’ in the name, but now the time has changed. Now only control would not work, the word ‘control’ should be replaced with a newer word ‘elimination’.”
“Now we need to come out from the business of just controlling and must eliminate pollution totally to make a pollution free society,” he added.
