Ahmedabad, 31 December 2012
Gujarat Congress’s two members of parliament will have to take decision on whether to continue as MLA of Gujarat assembly or as MP in Lok Sabha before 3 January 2013.
Congress party had fielded three Gujarat MPs in the assembly elections. While Porbandar MP Vitthal Radadia contested from Dhoraji seat, Surendranagar MP Somabhai Patel contested from Limbdi assembly seat. The third was Rajkot MP Kunvarji Bavalia who contested from Botad seat. While Bavalia lost the election, Radadia and Somabhai won, and as per the rule they have to take decision on whether to continue as MP or MLA within 14 days. The time limit ends on 3 January.
While Radadia has openly requested party to let him continue as MLA and sought the post of leader of opposition, Somabhai has shown readiness to accept whatever party decides him to do.
Resignation of both leaders from any of position(MP or MLA) will invite by-polls.
