Update: Sessions court has approved Teesta’s anticipatory bail, but with a condition that she has to surrender her passport.
Earlier story: Ahmedabad police crime branch has opposed Teesta Setalvad’s anticipatory bail plea in Sessions court. Crime branch has filed affidavit in this regard in court.
The case is about Teesta’s posting on twitter on 23 August describing Hindu Gods as ISIS terrorists. Following outrage, Teesta had deleted the tweet and tendered apology in succeeding tweets.
Teesta faced multiple cases across the country in next 24 hours. Couple of complaints were filed in Ahmedabad too. Local police stations had transferred the complaints to Crime Branch.
Teesta was called by police to seek her reply. With a team of lawyers, Teesta had recently paid visit to Crime Branch to cooperate in investigation.
Crime Branch has opposed Teesta’s bail on following grounds:
-Location of Hindu Goddess’s photograph and medium of storage.
-She can temper the evidences or destroy them in electronics equipments she has used.
-If anticipatory bail is given, police will face difficulty in getting important evidences.
-Accused is well-informed about in this offense related to cyber crime.
-Can’t deny possibility of repetition of such offense if bail is granted.
