A troupe of 30 Chinese artists is in Ahmedabad to perform at Kankaria Carnival.
Chinese artists were welcomed by city Mayor during the inauguration function of Kankaria carnival today evening in presence of Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.
Chinese troupe performed dance sequences on stage. While state-specific regional performances are part of Kankaria Carnival every year, today it was for the first time that any foreign group gave performance.
This has become possible due to Ahmedabad city’s sister-city MoU with Chinese city Guangzhou during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Ahmedabad in recent past. Visit of Chinese troupe to Kankaria Carnival was confirmed during Ahmedabad Mayor’s China visit recently.
Kankaria Carnival is organized every year during 25-31 December at Kankaria lake front site.
It was then Chief Minister Narendra Modi who redeveloped historical Kankaria lake and gave gift of Kankaria Lake front to city. Kankaria Carnival was also initiated by him.
During Kankaria Carnival, entry to Lake front area is free. From morning to late in the evening, number of events and programmes take place during Kankaria Carnival.
