Vadodara, DeshGujarat, 5 August, 2009
Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP)’s main face in the state, Vadodara based ex-minister Nalin Bhatt today resigned from the primary membership of the party.
Talking with DeshGujarat, he said: “Being in the party, it was becoming more and more difficult for me to fight effectively against Modi government in the state and UPA government in centre. I can’t remain mute when there are strong reasons to agitate. Therefore I have resigned from the BSP.”
“Two years back some anti-national Muslims came on road and exhibited Osama Bil Laden’s posters in Vadodara. Police detained some of them only after two years due to my repeated demands but released them within a day. I protested this and demanded strong actions against those anti-nationals. But my party(BSP) didn’t like my approach. The party leaders told me not to agitate for strong actions against those anti-nationals because they are Muslims and party’s pro-Muslim image may hurt. On this issue I have decided to break the ties with the party and resigned, ” added Bhatt.
Bhatt said he would now work with Dindayal Seva Sangharsh Samiti. He said today’s BJP in Gujarat is not Dindayal Upadhyay’s original BJP. The BJP in Gujarat has become Modi’s BJP.
Bhatt was Education Minister of the state during Keshubhai Patel led BJP government way back in 90s. He was later made GEB Chairman after his defeat in assembly election. Fingers were raised against him in connection with alleged corrupt practice. Photographs of his new big fully air conditioned bungalow was published in newspapers. When Modi came to Gujarat, he sidelined Bhatt and didn’t give him ticket to fight assembly election, after which Bhatt resigned from the BJP to join BSP. Bhatt lastly lost assembly election in December 2007.
