Veteran humorist, Gujarati author Shri Vinod Bhatt in Navbharat Sahitya Mandir’s book launch function at Ahmedabad’s Tagore hall shared stage with Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Friday. At the end of his speech, Shri Vinod Bhatt requested Gujarat Chief Minister that Gujarati language is slowly moving towards extinction, and to prevent its extinction in future, the state government must make Gujarati language subject compulsory in all schools and all streams from 1st to 10th standard.

Vinod Bhatt further requested the Chief Minister to consider Gujarati language score for admissions in college and post graduation. Bhatt said Anandiben is capable Chief Minister and therefore he is making this request.

Chief Minister’s body language was seen positive to Vinodbhai’s request. She smiled and clapped in response along with the audience.

It should be mentioned that on same day in the morning, Rajya Sabha MP and Reliance Group President Parimal Nathwani had urged same in an inaugural function of Gujarat Literature Festival in Ahmedabad in presence of state Finance Minister Saurabh Patel. He said Gujarat government must immediately introduce Gujarati as compulsory subject for all standards in schools across Gujarat. He said this is unavoidable step that the government has to take.

Presently Gujarati subject is optional in state schools which plays role in disconnection between Gujarati family children and Gujarati language in many cases especially in English medium schools. While most of such students are able to speak Gujarati due to Gujarati environment at home, they fail to write or read Gujarati language.
