Gujarat on ‘high alert’ following Punjab terror attack

Gandhinagar
The security machinery has been put on high alert in Gujarat in the wake of the terrorist attack in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, highly placed sources in the state home ministry said today.
“We have received a caution message from the central intelligence bureau (IB) and have put our machinery on high alert. In fact we are getting such intelligence reports regarding Gujarat being on the target of terrorists from quite some time and we are constantly alert but whenever a particular incident takes place we become extra cautious”, the sources said.
‘Police and intelligence sleuths have been asked to keep a vigil around public places like bus stands, railway stations, hospitals and other crowded areas. Any suspected object, especially unclaimed would be taken care of by the bomb diffusing experts,’ the sources said.
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Coast-guards along with the Marine police and other security agencies in the bordering areas with the neighbouring country (Pakistan) are now extra vigilant to tackle any attempt of intrusion of terror elements from across the border, the sources said.
Gujarat, the state with the longest coastline of 1600 km, has also a direct land contact with Pakistan in bordering Kutch area.
