RIL Hazira receives National Award for Prevention Of Pollution In Petrochemical Sector

The Hazira unit of Reliance Industries Limited won the prestigious – “National Award for Prevention of Pollution 2010-11” in Petrochemical sector. Hon. Union Minister for Environment & Forests – Shri. Prakash Javdekar gave away the award at Hotel Ashok in New Delhi in a special award ceremony on 5th June, 2014.
This is a very coveted national award instituted by Govt. of India and the jury for the evaluation comprised of senior executives from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi. Reliance has showcased their “beyond compliance” approach through various innovative schemes in pollution control and abatement done at the site.
Few of the initiatives mentioned in the award application were consistently low concentrations of pollutants compared to permissible norms, voluntary efforts made for recycling of effluents, Reduction, Recycling and productive management of hazardous wastes by promoting offsite processors, recycling of PET bottles for producing polyester, and the consistent environmental performance of Reliance Hazira manufacturing division.
