Gujarat Congress chief goof up on Gandhi memorabilia auction!
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 7 March, 2009
While the central Congress leaders jumped to take credit for bringing back Mahatma Gandhi’s belongings from the auction in New York, underplaying liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s role, the Gujarat Congress President Siddharth Patel didn’t even know that the auction was over before hours. For him, the auction had been stalled following Congress party’s efforts!
On Friday, in a press conference at Ahmedabad, Gujarat Congress president Siddharth Patel said, “The auction has been stalled due to our(Congress) efforts and appeal to the Indian External Affairs Ministry.”
Aghast, journalists present at the press conference interrupted Gujarat Congress president and told him that the auction had already taken place and the Mahatma’s belongings had been bought by Vijay Mallya.
“Oh, it’s good that Bapu’s belongings have been bought by an Indian,” Siddharth Patel said, face flushing.
Poor chap Siddharth, little did he know that Gandhi’s belongings were already back in Indian hands.
