After attacking a Janmashtami procession of Hindus and breaking Lord Krishna idols yesterday, the Muslims of Shahpur-Nagoriwad area today continued violence in the afternoon time at around 2:30 pm and set four Hindu houses on fire. Fire Brigade rushed to the place and controlled the fire. Rioting Muslims not only burned Hindu houses but also the kitchen wear, furniture, and lowries.

Muslim dominated Shahpur area, again witnessed violence on Sunday, in which minority Hindu community here was targeted and attacked by stones, soda water bottles, automobile filters filled with kerosene and fire rockets.

At least three policemen, including an officer were injured by violent Muslim mobs. When situation went out of control, the State Reserve Police jawans fired two rounds in air. Police arrested five people in connection with the riot. Total 30 tear gas shells were lobbed on Sunday in Nagoriwad and Rentiawadi areas of Shahpur.

On Sunday, Muslims again started throwing stones over Hindu locality in Shahpur’s Rentiawadi area late in the evening.

It should be mentioned here that Shahpur area was originally a Hindu dominated locality of Ahmedabad. But thanks to Muslim mafias, and property riots, sponsored by them, Hindus had to sell their properties and ultimately the whole area started becoming Muslim dominated. Last year, Muslims had burnt a Hindu temple in Shahpur area. The area saw its first Muslim MLA in last assembly election.
