Worth honoring driver, conductor honored in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 12 July 2010
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s transport committee meeting was held in Ahmedabad today in which a driver and conductor of bus no. 13/1 were honored for their superb alertness and sense of timing that saved 70 passengers without any injury.
Bus no.13/1’s frontal wheels pressure created a massive cave-in at Maninagar that caused a 25-feet deep and five-foot wide crater on the stretch between Pushpakunj crossroads and Bhairavnath crossroads. According to AMC authorities, the crater was formed because the drainage pipeline underneath the road laid 40 years ago. The drainage pipeline passes through Kalupur, New Cloth Market and Kankaria, reaching pumping station at Maninagar.
As soon as he smelled something wrong, Driver Bhavanibhai Revabhai Gamara immediately stopped the bus very safely and with full control, which prevented rear wheels to go inside the crater. He continued to sit on his position and pushed the break till all passengers vacated the bus. Conductor Lakshmanbhai Punabhai Khant also helped all passengers to vacate the bus safely.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service on Monday honored Bhavanbhai with Rs 5000 cash award and Mr. Lakshmanbhai with Rs 2500 cash award.
