Arun Jaitley’s complete statement at Delhi press conference
New Delhi, DeshGujarat, 23 July 2010

Following is complete statement of Shri Arun Jaitley that he delivered during today afternoon press conference held at BJP headquarter in New Delhi in support of Amit Shah.

“For last some months, BJP has time and again push debate in media about CBI misuse, and in last session, the party demanded in parliament also, and the leader of the opposition demanded discussion on this issue also. But the government has decided to misuse the CBI shamelessly.”

“There are many examples that when there is voting in parliament, the political parties voting pattern depends on how CBI would change its stand in court on the bases of voting. When there was voting on nuclear bill, Mulayamsingh’s change of stand was evident in connection with disproportionate property case against him. During Lok Sabha cut motion, Mayavati and BSP changed their stand in connection with CBI’s change attitude in Mayavati’s disproportionate asset case. And in this country some major scams are there. Even today CBI is cold about 2G spectrum sale issue. This is the issue whose truth if comes out can frame UPA and its allies. National Highway Authority’s directors whose interrogation is needed in very serious issue pertaining to tenders should be done is not being permitted. And their strategy is very clear. When Gujarat Police officers investigated they didn’t find anything against Amit Shah. Supreme Court appointed officials investigated and they didn’t find any truth in allegations against Amit Shah. And today we believe that totally on the bases of baseless facts, CBI is carrying out its political agenda. And UPA government’s strategy is clear in this issue : exercise media trial, feed half or total falsehoods, make prejudice environment, use that environment for vote-bank politics and rescue the government in parliament from discussion of issues such as price rise, petrol diesel prices, misadventure of Indo-pak talks, Anderson etc.”

“The agency that is the CBI is behaving like extended arm of ruling party. And timing(of calling Amit Shah)has been chosen for the political convenience of the Congress party. What type of precedent they are setting? There is an alleged encounter in which a Maoist leader and another gentleman have been killed. Are successive governments now going to prosecute the state Home minister of the centre home minister in that case? Has Indian politics never was in this direction? Does a UPA government setting new precedent? At least two major principal parties of this country have practiced democratic norms politics. Some states witnessed poor politics, but in centre we didn’t do this type of politics. For last 20 years we are in power in Gujarat, we didn’t do such things. What kind of new traditions the Congress and UPA are setting up? This is political issue. Those who are harassed will fight their legal fight, but the BJP will definitely fight its political fight inside the parliament and outside also.”

During conversation with the press in question answer session

“As far as this case is concerned, we are firmly of the view that it is political motivated and without any base. My advice to the media friends is, please don’t accept all information that is given to you. You have national role to play, rather than just carry half baked and half truth plans of some agencies. The facts in relation to the involvement of the Home minister of Gujarat, the entire investigation has been motivated with the political agenda in mind, and this part of the investigation has been completely constructed with this political motivation and direction in mind.”

“The SIT was also appointed by Supreme Court in other cases. In this case also officers were appointed by Supreme Court. New facts born only when CBI comes in case. In last two years, the CBI has only rendered itself as political arm of the Congress party. Mr Shah is citizen of India, and therefore he is entitled to all his legal rights and remedies. When we want the investigation agency to detach from politics, this itself is high moral ground.”
