Buy khadi, Narendra Modi’s Gandhi Jayanti appeal
Gandhinagar, 1 October, 2010
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today fervently appealed to the people to buy khadi clothes during the Gandhi Jayanti Week beginning tomorrow.
In a statement here issued on the eve of the Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2010, Mr. Modi wished that every family, every person join the campaign individually or in groups to buy khadi for the economic empowerment of lakhs of shramyogis, engaged in spinning yarn and weaving khadi in the form of cottage industry.
Expressing satisfaction at the sale of khadi clothes receiving huge response in Gujarat for nearly a decade, he said, each one of us must buy at least one khadi cloth to ensure the poorest among the poor could light the proverbial lamp in his hut during the Diwali. This could be the best tribute to the Mahatma for whom the empowerment of the daridra narayan was his top priority.
The Chief Minister said that the rebate announced by the Gujarat Government on khadi during Gandhi Jayanti has also been receiving wide support. He said that he would himself buy dresses by dropping into the khadi shops this year too, as in the past.
Rebate on Khadi announced by state govt
Meanwhile the Gujarat govt has announced a 10 percent rebate on Khadi for 108 days period starting from October 2. The central govt has already announced 10% discount. This means total rebate would be 20%.
