Three-day Vibrant Fashion Week season two will kick off today at 5.30 pm at Amdavad’s Courtyard by Marriott hotel. There will be two shows on first day, and three shows on second and third day. Total 17 designers are participating in this event. Following is a draft of complete detail on this:

Fashion has history and Culture and civilization attached to it, If we talk about fashion and Gujarat we need to go little in past, with the textile industry of the city, in the 19th century, when the city and the industry was established under the British Raj. Textile mills employed thousands of people from across the state, and the cotton garments manufactured were exported across the world. The prosperity of the industry was the mainstay of the city’s economy, and Ahmedabad was accordingly termed the “Manchester of the East.”

In the 19th century, the textile and garments industry received strong capital investment. On 30 May 1861 Ranchhodlal Chhotalal founded the first Indian textile mill, the Ahmedabad Spinning and Weaving Company Limited. This was followed by the establishment of a series of textile mills such as the Calico Mills, Bagicha Mills and Arvind Mills. By 1905 there were about 33 textile mills in the city. The textile industry further expanded rapidly during the First World War, and benefited from the influence of Mahatma Gandhi’s Swadeshi movement, in a way Mahatma Gandhi played a major role in the Indian textile industry, we can say fashion is a retail face of the textile industry.

Surprisingly many of us are not aware that the first every fashion show in the india was organised at very much in Ahmedabad city in 1930 at Calico Dom. Also indias first ever textile museum was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India Shree JawaharLal Nehru in 1949 at calico.

Gujarat and Ahmedabad has been always vibrant in fashion and has given world a message and fashion statements always, to continue the legacy the process has been set last year by way of organsing Vibrant Fashion Week for the first time, and it was a great success, this year its going to be knows as DIGJAM -VFW Season – II.

For the first time ever, in 2010 Ahmedabad witnessed the spectacular FASHION WEEK held at The Courtyard Marriot. The fashion week was graced by the countries top fashion models and eminent designers. Season I was graced by Zarin Khan, Amruta patki, sophie chaudhari. Season I has promoted Patan Patola. Its a platform to provide a new designers scope of work, meeting with the traders, textile traders, alliance, partners, fashion media to talk about and explore about their creative work and imagination by way of their showcasing the fashion.

Gujarat has many fashion and design institutes such as, NID and NIFT, INIFD, IITC, but the students form these institutes are not getting any opportunity to explore their talent, and as they have to visit Mumbai or any other metro in India, we are giving same platform in Gujarat. Raffles this year being our alliance partner, its world leading fashion institute, now just opened in Ahmedabad, shows how potential Ahmedabad is, as real Manchester.

Aslam Khan

Fashion designer Aslam Khan with his couture ontology from 1993 to 2006 has touched the hearts of Fashion lovers throughout the world from Delhi.

Most of the designs of Fashion designer Aslam Khan represent the fine art of tailoring, as it showcased with fascinating pin tucks, piping, cuts, and frills. All these artistic chunks of the creativity of Fashion designer Aslam Khan give a perfect summer look. Fashion designer Aslam Khan also designs some trendy but graceful items for the energetic and lively generation, as they love to live with their dreams

Abhi and Rahul

The Delhi based designer duo, Abhi and Rahul started their label ‘abhirahul’ in December 2006 after graduating from NIFT (New Delhi). These two young minds beautifully intertwine their design sensibility with refined textures and innovative crafts. Rich draping and inventive craftsmanship completed with impeccable fit and finish conjugate the key facets which define the abhirahulensembles.

About Abhi:
During his time at NIFT, Abhi won the award for the Best Designer in Exploration of Hand Flat Knits. Immediately after, this young artiste was driven to explore and innovate- an aspiration which endowed him with a job as a fashion designer working for Satya Paul. Off late, he also participated in International Unbridled Swarovski Event held in Delhi in 2008.

About Rahul:
Meanwhile Rahul got his initial exposure in the fashion fraternity mentored by the renowned Rohit Bal before moving to Mumbai to join Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. He later went on to freelance and thus design wardrobes for the finest of the film fraternity like Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia and many others. He was also the entrusted stylist for the likes of Zyed Khan and Manoj Bajpayee. He further diversified his portfolio by styling entire wardrobes for the movie Allah Ke Bande directed by Faruq Kabeer, starring Sharman Joshi along with the Metro Shoes advertisements and music videos like Nick and Nickol.
