LiveMint has published couple of claim checks that reveal, Rahul Gandhi lied before public during his speech in Gujarat’s Bardoli last week.
Rahul in his speech said 13,000 schools were closed in Gujarat. However when checked it was found that Rahul was wrong. District-level school statistics show the number of elementary* schools in Gujarat has actually increased from 40,943 in 2011-12 to 42,745 by September 2012(read more here).
Similarly, Rahul took up the issue of Information commissioner in Gujarat. He said there is only one right to information commissioner in Gujarat when there should be 10. When checked this claim was found wrong. There are three right to information commissioner in Gujarat at present. And Government of India’s transparency law says there should be a maximum of 10 information commissioners in a state but doesn’t stipulate a minimum number.
