I want to contest against Modi: Rashid Alvi to Sonia

Lucknow, 31 March 2014

Congress leader Raashid Alvi today through a letter requested Congress president Sonia Gandhi to field him as candidate of Varanasi Lok Sabha seat against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Shri Narendra Modi.
It is not clear whether Congress will field him or not. If Congress wants to give more power to its Muslim vote bank across India, it may chose Alvi or any other Muslim candidate to fight against Narendra Modi.
If Congress really wants to give fight to Narendra Modi on Varanasi seat – not enough to win the seat, as there’s no chance, but to make the election little more interesting – it may chose local reputed candidate from Varanasi itself. The party according to sources will declare its decision on Varanasi candidate in day or two. Congress campaign has just not kicked start in Varanasi in absence of announcement on candidate.
