Man with gold worth Rs 84 lakh held at Ahmedabad airport

A Kerala native was held with three kilograms of smuggled gold worth around Rs 84 lakh by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport Customs officials, it was officially announced here today.
“Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs caught a man identified as Sajan Kurichittethil Sasidharan today, with 3,096.050 grams of gold worth Rs 84.25 lakh at the Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport,” a Customs Department official said.
Sasidharan, a Kerala native, arrived from Dubai on Spicejet flight SG-016 at the city airport today.
Acting on a specific input, Customs officials traced Sasidharan and seized the gold from him, the official said.
Customs officials seized the gold in the form of 21 flat plates and 21 hollow plates concealed in a high pressure car washer which belonged to Sasidharan, the official said.
Customs officials are probing possibilities of his involvement in other smuggling bids, he said.
According to Customs officials, this is the third incident of smuggled gold seizure at the city airport during the last fortnight.
