Fightback by Dayashankar Singh’s wife, mother and daughter dominates political discussions in UP

It started with Uttar Pradesh BJP’s then vice president Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory remarks against political rival and Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayavati. As Mayavati is from Dalit class, and BJP has made inroads in BSP’s Dalit ‘vote bank’, the issue was twisted by BSP as insult of Dalits. BJP said Singh’s remarks were unacceptable and removed him from the post of Vice President of UP unit and also suspended him from the party. BSP staged dharna in Lucknow during which announcements were made from mic about Dayashankar Singh’s wife, daughter and sister. Dayashankar’s wife who is former professor was under threat. She brought her 12-year-old daughter back from school and launched fierce attack against BSP’s remarks against her daughter. Dayashankar Singh’s wife gave series of interview attacking Mayavati on various news channel that are receiving good traction online. When asked about derogatory remarks against a girl child and women by BSP leaders, Mayavati’s reply was not satisfactory. Instead she said, “weaker section consider me as Goddess, and they can’t tolerate derogatory remarks against their Devi.” The fight launched by a mother against self-style Devi has been allover on social media and local press in Uttar Pradesh. Mayavati wanted to take political benefit of Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory remarks against her, but Dayashankar Singh’s wife’s counter attack has shattered Mayavati’s plan. Here are latest developments in this row. Don’t miss the videos in which Swati Singh, wife of Dayashankar speaks out.

BJP demands action against BSP men for ‘abusive’ slogans

Lucknow: Hitting back at BSP chief Mayawati, BJP today said her clarification on the abusive slogans raised by her party workers during a protest rally was “laughable” and demanded that she initiate action against her partymen.

“Mayawati has given a half-baked and laughable clarification on the abusive slogans raised by her party workers during a protest rally. The entire country knows what they meant by those slogans.

“Why is she not taking action against her party leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui in whose presence BSP workers raised abusive slogans?” BJP state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

After Dayashankar Singh had sparked an outrage by his derogatory comments questioning the character of the BSP supremo, the party had on Thursday held a huge protest in Hazratbal and raised slogans against the expelled BJP leader’s family.

Mayawati today alleged the remarks made by her party leaders, who were protesting against expelled BJP leader Singh, were deliberately misconstrued by the saffron party, reflecting its “polluted” and “casteist” mentality.

Pathak asked why Mayawati was silent on the allegations being levelled against women members of Singh’s family.

He said Singh, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely and even BJP expressed regret over Singh’s remark against Mayawati. “But the manner in which comments were made against Singh’s minor daughter, neither Siddiqui nor Mayawati apologised even once,” he said.

While raids are being conducted for Singh’s arrest, others against whom FIR had been lodged were moving freely and addressing press conferences openly.

An FIR was filed against Mayawati, Siddiqui and others, on Friday on a complaint of Dayashankar Singh’s mother Tetra Devi.

Dayashankar’s wife meets Guv over foul language by BSP workers

Lucknow:Swati Singh, wife of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh, who had questioned Mayawati’s character, today met Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and lodged a complaint over foul language allegedly used by BSP workers against women of her family during their protests.

Swati said that she had lodged an FIR against the “misdeeds” of BSP workers led by Naseemuddin Siddqui “at the behest of Mayawati”.

She submitted a CD containing video of the protest by BSP workers on Thursday and the Governor has assured that necessary action would be taken after examining it, Swati said.

She alleged that during the protest, BSP workers raised objectionable slogans against her mother-in-law, daughter and herself.

If Mayawati was “hurt” by Singh’s remark against her, then slogans raised by BSP workers were “equally disturbing” for Dayashankar’s family, she said, adding the BSP chief’s allegation that she is working on the directives of BJP is “completely baseless”.

After Dayashankar had sparked an outrage by his derogatory comments against the BSP supremo, the party had on Thursday held a huge protest in Hazratbal and raised slogans against the BJP’s now expelled leader’s family.

He said that no time has been fixed for providing the information.

“It is just to get detailed information about the incident. Generally, we seek information in such incidents,” he said.

Police had already said that it has got the entire protest videographed and would take action after examining the footage.

“We have got the entire incident videographed and will take further action after examining the footage,” a senior officer had said.

“A delegation of BJP office-bearers, led by state president, yesterday met the Governor and demanded immediate arrest of BSP general secretary and Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Naseemuddin Siddiqui,” BJP state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak had said.

BJP stated in the memorandum that derogatory language was allegedly used against women members of Singh’s family, especially against his daughter, during protest by BSP workers on Thursday.

Mayawati’s response even more outrageous: Anupriya

Allahabad:The derogatory remarks of Dayashankar Singh questioning the character of Mayawati were “admittedly reprehensible”, but the response by the BSP supremo and her supporters has been “even more outrageous”, Union Minister Anupriya Patel today said.

“There is no denying that the words used by Dayashankar Singh were admittedly reprehensible. BJP accepted that and he has been removed from the post of state vice-president and expelled from the party for a period of six years,” she said.

“However, the way the BSP supremo and her supporters have been reacting, is even more outrageous,” the Apna Dal MP said.

“The words that Singh used undermined a woman’s dignity and that is why he has drawn flak from his own party. He has been accused of having a patriarchal mindset which attaches no value to the dignity of women, especially to those of lower castes,” the MoS for Health and Family Welfare said.

“But it is appalling that Mayawati is approving of the vicious campaign by her party supporters who are publicly abusing the expelled BJP leader’s female family members in the most abominable fashion,” Patel said.

“Mayawati seems hell-bent upon reducing the matter to a mere caste issue and allowing the gratuitous insults that are being heaped upon the wife and the daughter of the now expelled BJP leader,” she added.

An FIR was filed yesterday against Mayawati and some of her party leaders by police on a complaint of Dayashankar Singh’s mother Tetra Devi.

She alleged that Mayawati used “abusive language” against the women members of the family and BSP leaders raised “derogatory” slogans at the protest in Lucknow on Thursday during which Singh’s 12-year-old daughter was also dragged into the row.
