84% Kharif sowing against normal in Gujarat, Udad area 235.18% up, Tobacco down to 2.71% against normal

Gandhinagar: Compared to Kharif(monsoon) season last year, the total area under sowing in present Kharif season for pulses like Adad(Udad) and Tuver has increased significantly.
As on 12 August, Udad has seen 235.18% sowing compared to normal while Tuver has seen 133.63% sowing against normal. Math has seen 104.62% sowing compared to normal.
Soybean and Groundnut are other two varieties of crops that have seen increase in sowing.
The worst is Tobacco. It seems farmers in Gujarat have almost abandoned this variety of crop. There has been only 2.71% sowing of Tobacco this year compared to normal. Guvar seed and Castor are other crops that are down so far as sowing area is concerned. While Guvar seed area has gone down to 31.55%, Castor is down to 29.70% compared to normal.
Overall the State has witnessed 84% sowing against normal.
